The Perfect Study Plan · By Jane Liu (Y5)

Ever wake up on a Monday morning to realise you've completely forgotten about your homework? Sounds familiar, doesn't it? You may find that a key reason for your forgetfulness is due to not having an organised study plan. It may seem unnecessary, however, over time, you'll find that this will achieve great results.

Step 1

The first step to creating an outstanding study plan is to, well, 'plan the plan'. By this, I mean you need to ask yourself questions, like, 'How long approximately will I use this plan for?', or, 'Which study areas do I need to approach the most?' Once questions like these are settled, you can move on to the next step.

Hint: Questions like these may pop up in your head anytime during the process. The best thing you can do is make a list of all these questions, so you never lose track of them!

Step 2

The next step is to make a few lists regarding your personal study. I would recommend making lists of:

  • The subjects you will be working on in the time period

  • The workbooks and textbooks (and other homework, of course) that you will be working on

  • The best places in your home to study

  • The best days and times to study

You can jot down other lists that you feel necessary!

Step 3

The third step to creating a study plan is to rule up a timetable. I personally recommend using Excel. You can create the timetable to your liking, but I would recommend writing the days of the week on the y-axis and the times to do the studying on the x-axis, with all the subjects in between. Next, export the timetable onto Word, and add any additional information from steps 1 and 2. It's your study plan; create it to fit your style!

Step 4

The last and final step is to stick to your study plan! There's no use in creating a study plan and not using it. Here are some simple tips and tricks:

  • If you constantly forget to do a specific assignment, write it down on a sticky note and stick it somewhere easily visible, such as on a mirror or on your bedroom door.

  • If you're not much of a technology person, you can rule up your timetable the traditional way: with pen and paper!

  • And finally, if you find that your study plan doesn't work out, don't stress. Not every way works for everyone, but I'm positive that one day you will find a perfect way to study!

Well, I hope you enjoyed that! I really hope that my step-by-step guide has helped you study better. Until next time, Bye!
